Sleep on a Marshall

Sleep on a Marshall

My grandmother used to say: “thank God for the night”..

I never understood what exactly she meant, but now, getting older, I really appreciated her saying.

The most important part of your day is night! That’s where you regain your strength and beauty, where your whole body is getting stronger and rejuvenated for the next day.

That is where having a good mattress comes into play.

Marshall mattress is the the company that started as the makers of mattresses for hospitals; specifically for the orthopedic patent’s to help with problems like muscles and bones.

Getting Marshal mattress is simply investing in your health.

They are the inventors of the pocket coil springs, using all natural material like wool, cotton and  silk.

Have a good rest and sweet dreams!

Using Artwork In Your Home Decor

Whether you are a collector of original art or like to showcase your own photographs, displaying artwork is a great way to spruce up your walls, show off your personality, and create a flow of colour in your home decor.

Here are a few easy tips for Using Artwork In Your Home Decor:

  1.  Hang It Low – When hanging artwork, make sure to position it so the centre is at eye level.  If hanging it over furniture such as a sofa or table, the bottom of the frame or canvas should be only 8-16 inches above your piece of furniture.
  •  Set The Mood – As with all things, the colours in your artwork will set the mood in your room.  Use soft neutrals for a calming effect and bright colours for a lively, cheerful mood.
  •  Placement – When deciding where to hang your artwork, look around the room as you enter it and see where your eye lands first.  This will determine your focal point and the best place to hang your art to create the most impact.
  •  Spread The Love – Hang artwork in every room of your home (yes, even the bathroom). There’s nothing more depressing than a blank wall.  Wall art is a perfect finishing element that helps pull a space together and make it feel complete.
  •  Mix Things Up – For a striking display, mix different scaled pieces together.  Plan your layout on the floor in front of your wall first and play around with the arrangement until you achieve the visually balanced look you want.

KEEP CALM AND ART ON – Using artwork in your home decor doesn’t have to be an expensive venture.  The most important thing is to buy and display what you love and surround yourself with pieces that will provide you and your guests with great pleasure on a daily basis.

How to Mix and Match and Furniture

In the past less used to be more, however today “more is more!” I don’t know about you but designing your space with all natural colors can sometimes look very plain and simple. Buying pieces for your home can be difficult, which is why sometimes most people like to choose natural colors and get matching sets for their space. However I am here to give you some nice easy tips that can help you make your space look more vibrant and interesting, but still elegant.

One of the best things you can do is to start with the main piece in the room, like a sofa in a living room. This piece can be a natural color which will be the main focus of you room. Using this piece you can now add smaller accent pieces that can pop in your space. Accent chairs are a really good way to mix and match furniture because you can make the chairs in a brighter more vibrant color which will create a nice contrast within your space.

Another great way to mix and match your furniture is by choosing some pieces that will complement each other, this can work by making sure that all your pieces in your space “work” together.

  1. Look at fabric, you can chose the same material but in different colors and patterns
  2. Keep the style of your pieces the same, for example; traditional legs or clean modern lines, this can tie the room together even if you don’t match all the same pieces from the same set.

These are some easy ways to create a unique and different look within your space by just using these simple mix and match tricks!

Furniture Size & Scale

The proper scale is extremely important when you design any room.

One improper sized piece of furniture can ruin even the most beautiful design.

In order to place your pieces of furniture correctly, it is a good idea to first do the floor plan.

At Decorium we have a special computer program where you can organize the room according to the size of pieces.

When you sketch out a room, you realized the different configurations available for it, as well as the proportion of the items that you need.  Once you are aware of your options, you can decipher what is most suitable for your life style. For example, you can choose whether you want 2 sofas and 2 chairs, a sectional and 1 chair, sofa and loveseat, etc.

The whole idea is to set up your space with the right amount of furniture so that you can enjoy your room.

If you feel overwhelmed, you can always contact one of our design specialists and we will discuss your needs, sketch the rooms for you and help you put them together with beautiful furniture and accessories.

How to effectively stylize odd corner spaces

With a little bit of creativity and imagination, every odd corner in your home can be transformed into something purposeful. Corners can be cleverly occupied and used, or totally awkward and wasted. Eliminate the awkward and make sure your corners are serving you as best they can.

Below are few effective furniture and or accents which you can add to your odd corner spaces, to make them more functional or simply to just stylize the space and not leave it empty.

Stylize with unique accents:

Uniquely styled accents can be part of these corner spaces, which can make bold statement to the dead space. Area around the staircases are either curved or straight angled, however, placing a round curved chaise or a bench with an accent table or lamp can simply add life to this corner.

Gallery of picture frames:

An interesting collage can be created with the use of family picture frames or abstracts frames, with the extension of frames on both the sides of a corner wall. Combining with bold colorful wall art within the collage, or a clock, can be an interesting eye-catching addition.

Indoor plants:

Either one oversized indoor plant or a set of three with different heights or size can also be a great space filling addition. Tall plants create a beautiful scale around the staircase area, while grouping small plants together, makes a beautiful home garden.

Building corner with shelving units:

Shelving units stretched on either sides of the corner wall can add convenient storage space as well as a pretty accent display wall. Putting a shelf in your kid’s room can be a useful storage tool, while placing it in the library or home office can make it a wonderful display shelf.
