Mixing Patterns in Your Home’s Decor

Combining patterns in your home’s decor is fun and can lead to interesting and fresh interiors.

To make it easy, there are some rules that you can follow to keep your space from looking too busy and overwhelming:

  1. Keep your background or main furniture pieces neutral – this will provide balance and an area for the eyes to rest.
  2. Choose your main colour pallette for the room and introduce varying patterns repeated in those colours.
  3. Choose colours that work well together such as turquiose, blue, and green.
  4. Try sticking to 3 different patterns in varying scales to begin with, such as narrow stripes, midsize geometrics, and bold florals.
  5. Look beyond just fabrics to introduce patterns, such as a bold patterned wallpaper or area rug.

Yes, the idea of mixing patterns can seem like a challenging project, but it can also be lots of fun! It’s a great way to express your creativity and will add an effortlessly stylish look to any room in your home!

The New ‘Normal’ – Working From Home

Working from home has been a growing trend in the past years. But now, since this pandemic, people have been forced to work from home, creating an increase in the need for dedicated work spaces and home offices.

In order to promote productivity, a well designed home office should be situated away from other living areas; provide good flow; lighting; and be comfortable with a large working space.

Here are 5 things to consider when designing your home office space:

  • LOCATION: Designate a room or private corner in your home to allow for you to work away from the hustle-and-bustle of busy home activities.

  • DESK and CHAIR:  Think about work flow.  Having a desk with ample work surface and a great chair with ergonomically correct comfort seating, will allow you to work productively.

  • LIGHTING:  Making sure your home office has plenty of light helps to cut down on eye strain which can lead to exhaustion and headaches.  A small desk lamp is great for task lighting.

  • ORGANIZATION:  Bookshelves and cabinets with drawers for hanging folders, will provide both vertical and horizontal organization solutions.  This is especially useful in small spaces.

  • STYLE:  Adding personal touches such as wall art, homey accessories, and cherished photos are a great way to reflect your own personal style as well as keep you motivated, relaxed, and inspired.

Depending on our needs, a home office can be used for many hours each day if working from home, or just as a quite place to go thru correspondence and pay bills. Regardless, whether working from home is a temporary situation, or is now our ‘NEW NORMAL’, don’t we all deserve a home office that is both functional and beautiful??

How To Create A Bedroom Oasis

Typically speaking our bedroom should be the most comfortable room in our homes. Nothing feels better than, at the end of a busy day, getting to relax in our comfortable, cozy bedroom.

Here are a few ideas to help make your bedroom a comfy, cozy oasis:

Keep It Dark

Create the perfect mood to rest and slumber by painting your walls in a dark colour.

Warm Up Your Floors

Area rugs are a great way to introduce colour, texture, and warmth in your bedroom. Try layering multiple area rugs for added drama and warmth underfoot.

Pillow Talk

Layering neutral pillows and throws helps make your bed a place you want to snuggle into.

Bed Time

A headboard done up in warm natural wood or upholstered in a neutral fabric adds warmth and texture.

Tone Down The Lights

Chose soft lighting, or even better, use a dimmer to create the mood you want to achieve.
It seems like a small thing, but think about it, we spend a third of each day in our bedrooms.
So it’s definitely worth the time and effort to create the perfect oasis to start and end each day.
