Because we’ve all been inside our homes for the majority of the past couple months, a lot of people have realized it’s time to freshen up the decor.

The New ‘Normal’ – Working From Home

Working from home has been a growing trend in the past years. But now, since this pandemic, people have been forced to work from home, creating an increase in the need for dedicated work spaces and home offices.

In order to promote productivity, a well designed home office should be situated away from other living areas; provide good flow; lighting; and be comfortable with a large working space.

Here are 5 things to consider when designing your home office space:

  • LOCATION: Designate a room or private corner in your home to allow for you to work away from the hustle-and-bustle of busy home activities.

  • DESK and CHAIR:  Think about work flow.  Having a desk with ample work surface and a great chair with ergonomically correct comfort seating, will allow you to work productively.

  • LIGHTING:  Making sure your home office has plenty of light helps to cut down on eye strain which can lead to exhaustion and headaches.  A small desk lamp is great for task lighting.

  • ORGANIZATION:  Bookshelves and cabinets with drawers for hanging folders, will provide both vertical and horizontal organization solutions.  This is especially useful in small spaces.

  • STYLE:  Adding personal touches such as wall art, homey accessories, and cherished photos are a great way to reflect your own personal style as well as keep you motivated, relaxed, and inspired.

Depending on our needs, a home office can be used for many hours each day if working from home, or just as a quite place to go thru correspondence and pay bills. Regardless, whether working from home is a temporary situation, or is now our ‘NEW NORMAL’, don’t we all deserve a home office that is both functional and beautiful??

How To Create A Bedroom Oasis

Typically speaking our bedroom should be the most comfortable room in our homes. Nothing feels better than, at the end of a busy day, getting to relax in our comfortable, cozy bedroom.

Here are a few ideas to help make your bedroom a comfy, cozy oasis:

Keep It Dark

Create the perfect mood to rest and slumber by painting your walls in a dark colour.

Warm Up Your Floors

Area rugs are a great way to introduce colour, texture, and warmth in your bedroom. Try layering multiple area rugs for added drama and warmth underfoot.

Pillow Talk

Layering neutral pillows and throws helps make your bed a place you want to snuggle into.

Bed Time

A headboard done up in warm natural wood or upholstered in a neutral fabric adds warmth and texture.

Tone Down The Lights

Chose soft lighting, or even better, use a dimmer to create the mood you want to achieve.
It seems like a small thing, but think about it, we spend a third of each day in our bedrooms.
So it’s definitely worth the time and effort to create the perfect oasis to start and end each day.

Ways to clean your furniture

Since we have been told by the government and health care professionals to stay home as much as possible, in order to flatten the curve, we all have extra time to clean our furniture.
After all, while it is easy to be overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, and uncertainty , it’s important to remember :

Have a plan, remember you don’t have to clean all your furniture in one day. Consider taking on one room per day. This will give you the confidence that this is something you can take on during this period of chaos; and in doing so you’ll have clean furniture.
Here are some cleaning tips:

Wood furniture

  • Never use glass cleaners, detergents, liquids or waxes on wood furniture.
  • Clean with water and mild soap using a soft cloth followed by a dry cloth.
  • Remove all spills immediately.
  • Never place your furniture in direct sunlight for long periods of time .

On upholstery furniture, remove seat and back cushions and vacuum regularly to remove dust particles.
Vacuum upholstered headboards as well.

Use a slightly dampened soft cloth or leather cleaner.
Use a leather conditioner every three months to keep leather supple and prevent it from drying out.

Use mild detergent and water followed by a glass cleaner with a micro fiber cloth.

Get ready to rid your home of dust with a HEALTHY spring cleaning!

We invest in furniture to make our homes inviting and cozy, spending time and money to make it beautiful.
At the same time we always wish to keep our pieces looking as new as possible, and to have them as long as possible!
One of the ways to do this, probably the most important way, is to ensure that the furniture is protected if anything happens.
That’s where our coveted protection plan comes into play!
Guardsman covers all accidental damage!
All spills, food stains, tears, rips and brakes that happen by accident (because we wouldn’t want to harm the furniture on purpose!), will be covered!
Guardsman will repair as many times as needed, and if’s not possible to repair, the piece(s) will be replaced.
Like most insurance policies, until it needs to be used, you’re investing in peace of mind!
Enjoy and use your furniture with the assurance that you are covered!
