Home Design Inspiration

Inspiration comes from all walks of life, in many shapes and sizes; often when we’re not even looking for it.

Brought on by a change in perspective, sometimes inspiration reveals itself in places we would have never thought to look.

Hiding in plain sight, we present these famous inspirational quotes, to feed the mind and spark alternative design concepts/themes; and to ultimately help you turn your home into a sanctuary.

“You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus”

So come into Decorium to celebrate your vision and embrace your imagination.

Luxury In Mirrored Furniture

Would you like to create charming and luxurious rooms? Jump into this year’s latest trend, using mirrored furniture.

Modern furniture with mirrored surfaces is an ideal way to transform average rooms into amazing and unique spaces.

For the most part, mirrored furniture pieces reflect lots of light, making the interior design of any room feel brighter. Classic or modern, the mirrored furniture look is a gorgeous design scheme that fits any room.

Make the space look as glamorous as the movies of the 30s, just by adding a striking piece like a console or dresser. Mirrored furniture items bring character to interior design and create an exceptional atmosphere; elegant in bathrooms, bedrooms and living rooms.

Finally, this new trend gives us a fantastic alternative to achieve contemporary spaces, brighter and more luxurious.

Bringing the indoors out!

When creating your outdoor living space, choosing a sheltered part of the garden is essential, especially if you want to bring some soft furniture outside. A covered pergola or awnings are good options to bring an indoor inspired room, outdoors.

This space is one you can have fun with and be totally creative when adding decorative pieces that would normally be seen indoors. A large mirror, lanterns for candles or a coffee table with some nice pieces on it all can be added to outdoor rooms.

A rustic dining table for entertaining fits perfectly into your outdoor paradise. You can also use rustic rattan table mats as well as coloured glasses and dishes to brighten up the room.

Varying patio layers will help create different areas to mingle and relax with family and friends. Sisal stitched rugs are an excellent way to not only add comfort and a sense of coziness, but also to use as a room divider for varying patio layers.

Depending on the space available, you can create an outdoor oasis that includes a living and dining space. Your backyard patio can feel like home with a little creativity.

Bring the serenity from your yoga or meditation time into your home. Decorate with Buddha accents, like sculptures and wall art with bamboo or lotus zen accents, while altogether keeping simple form and peaceful ambiance.  If you prefer a retreat type mood, consider adding accents made of organic materials such as wood or clay, like a Mayan sun disc.

How To Make A Small Room Look Bigger

This is a very common situation that all sorts of people deal with. Whether a young person moves away to school, an older couple decides to go from a huge house to a small condo, or a young couple that are just starting their lives together in a tiny apartment, you’re not alone!

Here are some tips to make life easier when you are furnishing your smaller space:

  • Choose furniture with exposed legs versus skirts, and cushions versus boxed seat cushions

E200 8pc. Sectional         Jacinth Sofa

  • Strategically place mirrors to create the illusion of more space; always reflecting windows, art, etc. Reflecting natural light makes the room feel larger.  A mirrored wall will double the size of a room.
  • You can also break some rules! Just because you are furnishing a living room, doesn’t mean that you have to have a sofa, a loveseat, coffee table, etc. You can take a risk and design it in a different way. For example, four accent chairs; as long as it works with your everyday use.

  • Limit the number of accessories to avoid a cluttered feel.
  • De-clutter the rooms. The lighter, minimalist look will be the right solution for this case – less furniture, less accessories.
  • Use materials such as glass or lucite, which happen to be very in style now, to help create a lighter look.

There is always a solution for every situation when furnishing your rooms. If you take into consideration some of the tips above, you will be able to create more inviting rooms, multi-functional and chic, all at the same time.

Being Bold In An Urban World

Maybe you have downsized or have just bought your first condo, one thing’s for sure, the development of urban living is on the rise and here are some tips to bring out your bold side; and make that new living space roar in the concrete jungle!

UrbanLiving

Colour! Colour! Colour!

Gone is the myth that you can only use light colours in small spaces! Grab some deep rich tones like emerald green or royal blue and see how your furniture pops while your body relaxes. Darker walls help create a cozy atmosphere and show the world you’re fearless!

Accent walls

Not ready to go bold on all your walls? Try an accent wall by choosing a statement pattern like a Damask or Geometric. Balance out the other walls with some big pieces of art.

Anchor your space

Choose a dark grey or black and have this in several spots around your home. This helps to balance out your room and works well with bold and vibrant colours creating a very sophisticated and modern look.

urbanliving3

Size Matters

Choose large area rugs with big patterns and large wall art. The bigger the better when both of these things are concerned – think how many city buildings have giant art done by professional graffiti artists on the

outside – bring that idea inside!

Remember, urban dwelling is meant to be hip and cool. Don’t worry about trends just go with what makes you feel like you own the city!
